‘Nother Schedule Change

Hey, all! This is just a quick announcement about a change coming to my blog, effective immediately.

I will no longer be posting every two weeks.

Originally, I posted every week. Then, after it kind of became a chore, I decided to post every two weeks instead. Now, admittedly, it’s become a chore again, plus I’ve got school starting up in less than a week. So I’ve decided that I won’t stick to a strict schedule with my blog. From now on, I’ll do a post when, and only when, I feel inspired enough to do so.

I enjoy writing, but I don’t necessarily enjoy it all the time. Also, I feel that if I only write when I really, truly want to, it’ll result in better-quality posts altogether.

Hope this is cool with y’all! See you next post, whenever it may be!

Finals, bruh

You may have noticed that I didn’t get a blog post up this past Sunday. I hope you weren’t upset by that.

There’s a good reason why. It’s the final two weeks of the semester. So you don’t get a blog post this week (except this one).

Sue me!

All joking aside, good luck, everyone!

My Hopes/Expectations for “Jurassic World” (And an Announcement)

Hey, all! You may have noticed that I did not have a blog post last week. Well, that brings me to my announcement, which I’ll get to before the main point of this post.

Here it is: I will no longer be on a strict schedule of one new blog post a week. This is mainly because getting a new post up every week is starting to feel like a chore, which is not to say that I don’t enjoy writing anymore — far from it — but I almost feel sometimes that I’m forcing myself to choose a topic and write on it, which obviously doesn’t always lead to a good post.

So, in short, I’m on a new schedule now! New posts will now be coming every other week instead. Hope you all don’t mind too much, and I hope that giving myself more time will help me turn out better posts for your reading pleasure!

Okay, so that’s out of the way. To business!

Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you know that a fourth film in the Jurassic Park franchise is in the works. Well, actually, it’s no longer in the works. It’s finished, and it’s about to be released! June 12th. That’s this Friday.

That tagline. *anticipation intensifies*

In light of this, I thought I’d write a brief post talking about my hopes and expectations for this film.

Jurassic Park is one of my all-time favorite films, for various reasons. I love dinosaurs. I love the excitement of dinosaurs and humans being mixed together (for better or worse). I love the suspense. I love Steven Spielberg’s filmmaking. I love the visual effects and how they still hold up even twenty-two years after the original film was released on June 11th, 1993.

The sequels are a mixed bag, though. I do enjoy both of them for what they are, but I do feel that they are inferior films to the first one (Jurassic Park III especially). So way back when I first heard that a fourth film was in the works, I was both excited and worried. Excited because NEW DINOSAUR MOVIE!!! Worried because “What if it drives the whole franchise into the ground?”

More recently, as the film got closer to release, I swore to myself I would not watch any of the trailers, read any plot summaries, or look up any screenshots from the film. I have broken that last promise a few times now, sometimes on accident and sometimes (admittedly) on purpose. But hey, I’m only human! It’s hard! But anyway, I wanted to know as little as possible about the film before I saw it so I could get the optimum experience, being surprised at every turn, not knowing what to expect or even what the dinosaurs looked like.

With that being said, I have a few hopes/expectations for this movie. Here they are:

  • I expect that the film will AT LEAST be better than Jurassic Park III. Said film is a decent one in my opinion, and fun to watch, but it doesn’t hold a candle to the original film, and I do consider it to be borderline juvenile at times. It would be great if Jurassic World will be better than The Lost World: Jurassic Park also, but I’m not getting my hopes up too high.
  • I expect the soundtrack will be fantastic. The music is being done by Michael Giacchino, of The Incredibles, Ratatouille, and both of the recent Star Trek films. While it would be awesome to have John Williams back, this guy is also quite talented, so I’m expecting some really standout music.
  • I hope the effects are well-done. More specifically, I hope there will be a good balance between practical effects and CGI. This balance is largely what made the first film so visually spectacular. Nowadays, though, most movies suffer from an over-reliance on CGI, and I do fear that this new film will suffer from this too. So I hope the filmmakers had the foresight to put a lot of effort into making everything look as good as it possibly can.
  • Finally, and most importantly, I hope it will be a good movie. I don’t want just a “pretty fun all around” popcorn-munching summer flick. I want a movie that excites me, that scares me (in a good way), that impresses me, that “wow”s me. I want a film that leaves me in wonder the way the first one did when I first saw it. I want a film that I will want to watch many more times, like the first. Now, I know for sure that the new film will not be better (or even as good) as the first film, because really, how many times has a sequel topped its predecessor? It does happen for sure, but with a landmark film like Jurassic Park, and after two sequels that were already inferior? Doubtful. But I do still hope that this film will be high-quality and will stand well with the other films, preferably being better than the previous two sequels.

Short list, but that’s pretty much it in summary. I’m seeing the film on opening day, so it won’t be long before I find out which of my expectations and hopes are met, exceeded, or not met at all.

Please be good. Please be good. Please be good. Please be good. Please be good. Please be good.

*cough* Sorry. See you all in two weeks! I’ll be posting my review of the film then! Possibly two versions, one with spoilers intact and the other spoiler-free. Later!

And always remember: “Life . . . uh . . . finds a way.”

EDIT: Also, when I published this post, I was informed that it was my 50th post on this blog! So . . . hurrah for that!

A Somewhat Lame April Fool’s Joke

I actually DID have a blog post this past Sunday — it’s just invisible, so you can’t read it!

. . .

Okay, I’m joking, of course.

Yeah, bad joke.

Anyway, I must apologize for not having a blog post this past Sunday. My Internet at home was down, and since then I’ve had little time to work on one. So I just thought I’d pop this one up on the ol’ blog for now and I’ll be back on schedule this coming Sunday!

See you then, all!

Just This Once?

So . . . I don’t know what to write about today.

So . . . if you don’t mind too much, I’m not going to write anything. Except for this, of course.

I do hope you don’t mind too much. But on the other hand . . .

After all, better to not write anything than to write something half-baked, am I right?

Then again . . . this is kind of something half-baked . . .

Oh, never mind. I’ll be back next week with something more substantial!

…I do not have a “real” blog post today.

My most sincere apologies for this inconvenience. Things are just getting quite busy ’round here, what with final projects and final exams and such. But fear not! I have only two more weeks of the semester left, and then I’ll be free for a whole month!

So anyway, for the time being, just have an interesting tidbit or two:

  • Did you know that whales and dolphins are actually mammals, not fish? I know! It’s crazy!
  • Wait, you already knew that?
  • Well, dang. So much for my first tidbit.
  • Maybe my second will be better. Spoons can’t pick up steaks!
  • …Or can they?

Food for thought. (Haha. “Food” for thought. I was just talking about steaks. Haha. Anyway…)

See you all next week with a better post!
